Standard File Systems

We need to know the logical format of data on the CD-ROM.

ISO 9660

This file system is an international standard and is supported by Microsoft in their MS-DOS CD-ROM Extensions. Most other systems also support CD-ROM discs that conform to the ISO-9660 standard.

HFS

Format only supported by Apple Mac computer systems. A disc using this format will be like a Macintosh hard drive.

Dual Partition

This consists of creating both an ISO and a HFS partition on the same disc. It looks like a HFS on the Mac and a DOS disc on DOS machines.

CD ROM-XA

CDROM- Extension Architecture is an extension to the CD-ROM standard using elements of the CD-I specification, and consistent with the ISO-9660 volume and file structure standard.

Mixed Mode

This is a combination of audio tracks and CD-ROM tracks on the same CD. The audio information is supplied on 3/4 inch U-matic PCM 1610/1630 format tape or 4mm audio DAT tape.

UNIX File system

Only to the operating system that creates the image (i.e.: SUN, HP, SCO, etc.) This format is a sector level copy of a UNIX hard drive.
